Peter Murphy: Help the Homeless 01/23/11
82 hours is quite a long time… but nearly as long as weeks, months, or even years. Especially if you are homeless.
And this is the point Peter Murphy, host of Orlando Live, wants to be sure Central Floridians understand. And, so he is making a big move: FORWARD!
Forward in thinking, forward in example, and forward in helping his fellow man.
Yep, Peter is setting aside his popcorn thong for a new wardrobe… one that will endure the elements, whatever they may be! This is because Peter will be standing outside on the corner of Orange Ave & Pine St. in Downtown Orlando for 82 hours, starting on January 24th at 12 pm and going until January 27th at 10 pm. He will only be accompanied by a few books for reading and water for hydrating in an effort to draw focus to the homeless population during Central Florida’s most dreary weather season.
You can Help!
Also on that street corner will be a holding bin. Residents of Central Florida are encouraged to come down to the corner of Orange and Pine to donate food items that will be allocated to the homeless men and women during the eighty-two hour mission. Any, and all remaining food items will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
Orlando Live will offer select LIVE look-ins at Peter’s 82 hour mission. (See sthe schedule on Facebook starting at noon on Monday.) Peter is also encouraging friends and fans to come down, hang out, take pictures and start a conversation as well.
As Peter explains, “The focus of this performance piece is all about moving past the trite objectivity that devours our lives and moving in a direction of uncontaminated action and introspection while helping fill the spirits, and stomachs of those that have fallen on hard times- even if it is only for a few days.”

And, in case you were wondering, there will be no cheating! Peter will be sleeping there as well, and The City Arts Factory has graciously allowed him to use their “facilities.” So, here’s big thumbs up to Peter Murphy for such a powerful move FORWARD!
